Teaching intercultural communication to medical undergraduate students: a pilot study

Introduction. The globalization influences the education system, and medical is not an exception. Along with general communication skills undergraduate students should demonstrate their competence in intercultural communication. aim of study was to implement elective course “Intercultural Communication” Russian school validate adapted questionnaire evaluate effectiveness teaching for development cultural awareness as a component competence. Materials Methods. developed implemented included four major topics: basics communication; culture language culture; Medicine. changes filled by them before after studying. following parts: demographics; questions assess attitudes towards diversity; Bogardus-type questions; feedback on questionnaire. results were evaluated using descriptive statistical analysis methods. Results. Out 149 students, 125 (83,9%) completed both studying course. Statistically significant students’ responses attributed three devoted diversity. No statistically identified questions. majority (84%) commented that had made think about diversity differences. Conclusion. showed changed more positive attitude representatives other cultures taking into account society including healthcare field. However, further objective tools improvement methods teach pharmaceutical are needed.
